The Split Britches theatre company was founded in 1980 by Peggy Shaw, Lois Weaver and Deb Margolin. Their vaudevillian, satirical, gender-bending works transformed the landscape of queer performance and they emerged as one of the U.S’s most significant experimental theatre companies, playing a definitive role in bringing a distinctly postmodern lesbian feminism to the stage.
This book brings together a collection of the troupe’s theatre writing. Edited and with an introduction and critical history by Professor Sue-Ellen Case, it includes seven of Split Britches’ best-loved performance texts, most published here for the first time, with accompanying programme notes and fifteen black-and-white photographs.
