Activations London and Liverpool, October 2004

Building on the legacy of 2003’s Live Culture event at Tate Modern, the Live Art Development Agency and Tate have developed two major initiatives about the reading and rendition of contemporary performance –  Live: Art and Performance edited by Adrian Heathfield and Joshua Sofaer’s The Performance Pack.

To launch these initiatives Live Art Development Agency presents Activations, a series of presentations and debates in October 2004 in collaboration with Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool, Bluecoat Arts Centre and the Liverpool Biennial 2004.

Adrian Heathfield and Hugo Glendinning present a performance event existing somewhere between an experimental film screening, a conversation and an art lecture. Personal, fictional and philosophical observations are woven together with images and words on the nature of photography and performance, time and vision, stillness and movement.

The Fate of Performance

A conversation between the distinguished art theorist Amelia Jones and Adrian Heathfield. Jones’ work on Body Art has expressed the vital political potential of some of the most challenging live artists. Their dialogue will bridge the gaps between theory and practice and move around some of the key philosophical and political questions for the future of performance.

A discussion drawing together issues raised by Live and Tate Liverpool’s Art, Lies and Videotape exhibition and Critical Forum conference. With contributions from Adrian Heathfield, Joshua Sofaer, Adrian George, Jonathan Harris and Cathy Butterworth.

The two events take place between15.30 – 18.30.
