[POSTPONED] Maïté Chénière – artist presentation

Please join us for a presentation by Swiss artist Maïté Chénière who will talk about their work in music, performance and queer club culture, and the research they have been undertaking on their residency in LADA’s Study Room.

Maïté Chénière (a.k.a. Mighty) uses music, performance and video to create hybrid experiences. In their practice, they merge the cultural productions of racialised queer people, theoretical and popular knowledge to create emancipatory dialogues.

Mighty is an Afro-futurist DJ, producer and founding member of the Archipelago Club events that promote the works of queer people of colour in Geneva. Through music, they travel in time and shed light on stories that have been ignored in order to create a space of expression and gathering on the dancefloor for a multiplicity of bodies and identities. They’ve been playing eclectic sets revolving around house and ballroom in Paris, Berlin, Leipzig, Johannesburg, and throughout Switzerland.

Maïté is undertaking a two week research residency at LADA in April 2020 as part of LADA’s collaboration with Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, on a three-year initiative to raise the profile of Swiss Live Art in the UK and contribute to the development of exchanges and collaborations between artists and promoters in the UK and Switzerland. Maite’s residency follows residencies undertaken in 2019 and 2020 by Ivy Monteiro and Andrea Saemann.

LADA is taking advice from the UK government and Arts Council England on the appropriate response to the current Coronavirus outbreak. If we do need to postpone this event we will notify everyone who has booked a place at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your understanding.
