Double Your Money: A call for proposals from artists

Could you take £1,000 and turn it into £2,000?

LADA welcomes proposals for an unusual and/or provocative artist-led fundraising initiative. LADA will provide a £1,000 budget, which the commissioned artist will use to generate a further £1,000.

The £1,000 generated will be used to directly support LADA’s programmes. Any income raised that exceeds £1,000 will be split equally between LADA and the commissioned artist. The artist ‘keeps’ their original £1,000 budget, to cover their fee and all taxes and expenses; that is guaranteed, irrespective of the outcome of the fundraising activity.

The fundraising can take any form and be based anywhere. We welcome proposals that challenge, or even subvert, more traditional forms of fundraising, and which reflect the unconventional nature of much Live Art practice. This may involve an Apprentice-style money making exercise, or a flutter on the horses, or any other get rich quick scheme you can imagine. As this is a fundraising initiative to raise income for LADA, articulating LADA’s values, programmes and ways of working could also form part of the fundraising activity.

For the past two years, LADA has been part of a consortium with Artsadmin and Home Live Art, supported by ACE’s Catalyst programme, which is designed to enhance our fundraising capacity. LADA’s work here has included researching, testing and implementing a range of fundraising activities, including ALAG: A Live Art Gala and a film by Kim Noble. The consortium also developed work on ethical funding issues; LADA’s Ethical Funding Policy can be read here. This Call continues LADA’s fundraising research.

We welcome proposals from artists working within Live Art and particularly encourage proposals from culturally underrepresented artists and others working in ‘politically charged’ territories.
