Description

The art and writing created by Bob Flanagan, who died in 1996 from cystic fibrosis at the age of 43, in collaboration with his Mistress and partner Sheree Rose revealed the intimacies of BDSM culture in a way that was both honest and unprecedented; the visibility of their work influenced the aesthetics of other renowned artists such as Nine Inch Nails and Alexander McQueen, and established contemporary historical precedence for the practices of younger generation of artists such as myself, Martin O’Brien, Amy E. Kingsmill, and Peter Kalisch.

Bob’s last book, The Book of Medicine , remained unpublished for many years. Now, more than 20 years after his death, following an extensive archival research process by Sheree Rose and Rihannon Aarons, Bob’s final work is available to the public.

It is a genuine, humorous, and powerful reflection on love, life, death, and “fighting sickness with sickness.”
