The Live Art Almanac Volume 5

Published by the Live Art Development Agency, 2019.

352 pages, paperback, 18.9 x 24.6cm.

The Live Art Almanac Volume 5 is a collection of ‘found’ writings about and around Live Art that were originally published, shared, sent, spread and read between January 2015 and December 2017. Selected through recommendations and an open call for submissions, Volume 5 reflects the dynamic, international contexts that Live Art and radical performance practices occupy.

Divided into three chapters – The Insiders, The Echoes and Dearly Departed – the collection begins by exploring the political, social, and artistic preoccupations of those who make, enable, engage with and write about Live Art, before considering the agency of Live Art in spaces of mainstream politics, finance and media, and those we lost in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The volume includes writings by, and about Preach R Sun, Kathy Acker, Frie Leysen, Tim Etchells, Selina Thompson, Diana Damian Martin, Cassils, Alexandrina Hemsley, Jennifer Doyle, Mel Evans, Stephen Pritchard, the Volksbühne, Tanja Ostojic, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Kraus, Jérôme Bel, Harvey Weinstein, Malik Nashad Sharpe, Scottee, Petr Pavlensky, Bob Flanagan, Ron Athey, Deborah Levy, Jill Soloway, Donald Trump, Tania El Khoury, Morgan Quaintance, Adrian Howells, Amelia Jones, Hester Chillingworth, Melanie Keen, Forest Fringe, jamie lewis hadley, Mary Paterson, Alastair MacLennan, Marilyn Arsem, Oleg Kulik, Doran George, Lydia Lunch, David Wojnarowicz and many more.

Launch event on 11 June 2019

Live Art Almanacs are my favourite books in the Unbound cannon. They are like a bumper annual of the kind that some of you might have found in your pillowcase on xmas morning when you were nippers, only these are for grown-ups. They’re beautifully edited and loaded with tid-bits, gossip, sandal, intrigue and righteous rants by extremely interesting people.
