15th Anniversary print: Zierle & Carter, Under Cover

LADA marks its 15th anniversary in 2014, which we are celebrating with a series of initiatives across the year. Our anniversary activities provide an opportunity to reflect on the seismic shifts in Live Art practices and discourses that have taken place since 1999 through the lens of the Agency and its work. Look out for special events, online activities, and publications with some of your favourite artists.

LADA’s second 15th Anniversary limited edition print is by Zierle & Carter.

While attending the ‘What’s love got to do with it?’ visual arts residency in 2011 at the Banff Centre in Canada, Zierle & Carter created a large portfolio of works that are now recognised as iconic works. Under Cover is part of a series of performance for camera images made at Banff exploring snow and ice as their primary material. Under Cover explores the artistic couple’s intimate and immersive relationship to each other and to their immediate environment through an enduring ritual act. Mid January, 15 degrees below zero with thick virgin snow cover, Zierle & Carter’s action explores their fascination for the unknown, for otherness, the surreal and humour, whilst tracing and impressing their physical presence on their surroundings.

Widely recognised as creators of memorable images and arresting experiences, Alexandra Zierle & Paul Carter have exhibited and performed internationally throughout Europe, Canada, United States, South America, Australia, in Asia and Africa, such as the inaugural Venice International Performance Art Week, Federation Square in Melbourne, IBT13, and Grace Exhibition Space, New York. In addition to featuring in Manuel Vason’s major new publication Double Exposures, their work has been included in the ‘Personal Structures: Time – Space – Existence’ publication from The Global Art Affairs Foundation. Zierle & Carter are currently In Between Time Associate Artists.

Proceeds from the print sale will be shared between LADA and the artists, supporting LADA's artistic programmes and the work of Zierle & Carter.
