Curator in Residence Announcement

Regina Agard-Brathwaite

Regina Agard-Brathwaite is a producer and emerging curator based in London. Her curatorial practice is rooted in an interest in hybrid forms and performances that push the boundaries of both form and subject. She is drawn to work that challenges normative modes of being and creates space for shared experience and collective inquiry.

As part of her residency with the Live Art Development Agency, Regina is developing Emerging Approaches to Curating Black Live Art (working title), a research project investigating how Black Live Art can be curated to foreground embodied practice, strengthen peer networks, and generate new curatorial frameworks for the field. The project explores embodied knowledge and the role of performance as a site for collective inquiry, liberation, and self-determination for Black artists. Through conversations with artists, curators, and organisations, she is examining how culturally grounded curatorial approaches can emerge from Black artistic exploration, lived experience, and community knowledge.

Her research is particularly interested in non-representational and action-led forms of performance, and in how curatorial frameworks can support artists to work beyond prescribed narratives and institutional expectations. She approaches curation as an expanded practice encompassing hosting, facilitation, relationship-building, and the creation of spaces where embodied ways of knowing can be explored.

Alongside her independent curatorial practice, Regina has worked across theatre, live art, and community-engaged performance as a producer and programme coordinator. She has held roles with New Diorama Theatre, Talawa Theatre Company, Future Ritual, and Camden People’s Theatre, supporting artists, developing programmes, and creating opportunities for creative participation and artistic exchange. She holds an MA in Theatre and Performance from Queen Mary University of London.
