Border Patrollers: Live Art Exchanges between UK and Ireland

An evening with the Irish artist and curator Aine Phillips and invited guests.

Aine will talk about UK and Irish collaborations and screen a short film by Mia Mullarkey about the public procession co-created with the Artists Campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment. She will be joined by artists Nigel Rolfe who has been working between the two islands since the late 1970s, Helena Walsh, co-founder of the direct-action feminist performance group Speaking of I.M.E.L.D.A. (Ireland Making England the Legal Destination for Abortion), and John Byrne who will revisit his Border Interpretative Centre from 2000 and other works addressing the relationships connecting Ireland and the UK.

Aine is undertaking a residency at LADA as part of a longer-term project looking at the ways that Live Art can develop relationships and support exchanges between UK and Ireland, especially in a post-Brexit future. and will be writing a regular LADA blog around these issues. Aine’s residency is supported by Culture Ireland.

Áine Phillips is a performance artist and head of sculpture at Burren College of Art at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
