Unfixed Archives is a new monthly radio show podcast on RTM radio, taking listeners on an audio journey that investigates how archivists and artists work with performance, why they do what they do, and what happens to performance once it’s ‘finished’.
Join us on Friday 27 June for an evening of unfurling archives and documentation to mark the release of the third episode of Unfixed Archives entitled ‘Holders of Liveness’, featuring a conversation by Unfixed Archives host Sophie Barrett-Pouleau and LADA Director Mary Osborn about LADA’s approach to archiving Live Art.
For the launch, Sophie will curate a collection of documentation from LADA’s Study Room and the Bristol University live art collection that will be on loop in the space, alongside archival ephemera and a display of printed matter from STIGMATA, an independent imprint by artist M Lissoni. Sophie and Mary will hold an in-conversation during the evening, revisiting their discussion from the podcast about the history of LADA’s Study Room collection and LADA’s engagement with the responsibility of archiving artistic practice.
A donation bar will run in the space throughout the evening.
Biographies
Sophie Barrett-Pouleau is an independent curator based in London that works with/in liveness. Her research investigates performance and archival practices, with an interest in the materiality, trace and afterlife. Focusing on curating impactful and inclusive exhibitions & public programmes that provide engaging and accessible art experiences for diverse audiences; Sophie has produced exhibitions, programmes and radio productions at ICA London, Tate, Mimosa House, Harlesden High Street, Camden Arts Centre, Slack’s Radio Newcastle and Radiophrenia Glasgow.
Mary Osborn is the Director of LADA. Before joining LADA as Director in October 2024, Mary Osborn (she/her) built a reputation for ambitious interdisciplinary performance programmes and projects as a producer, programmer and curator. As Senior Creative Development Producer at Battersea Arts Centre, she shaped BAC’s commissions and artist development programmes.
M Lissoni is a London-based transdisciplinary artist-curator. Their research-based practice focuses on the sacred as a tool to transcend personal authorship and embody collective ritual. Their work ponders issues of memory, cultural erasure, gender and mourning as a way of documenting the in-between. Drawing on fragments of objects, visual cultures, found text and traces of oral histories, they engage in decolonial forms of archiving the body, transforming these materials into installations, sculptures, prints, and books. M is the founder of STIGMATA, an independent publishing and curatorial platform, operating at the intersection of print, moving-image and public programming.
Bristol University’s Theatre Collection is one of the world’s largest archives of British theatre history and Live Art, comprising over 140 named collections and archives. Covering half a kilometre of shelves, the Collection’s live art archives contain over 1,200 boxes of physical items and 90 terabytes of digital files, including over 3000 audio-visual recordings of live events.

Event information
This is a mix and mingle event, various seating options will be available including fold out chairs, office chairs, a sofa and a bench. All are welcome to join in a relaxed space and are free to come and go as they please. The lighting will be fixed with no sudden changes and microphone amplification will be used. There are disposable masks and hand sanitiser available. Please be aware that the event will be audio recorded.
LADA space
The building is wheelchair accessible by lift and provides a wheelchair accessible ground-floor bathroom. All bathrooms are gender inclusive. There is no isolated quiet space inside, but there is a small quiet outdoor area. Some of the art on display in the space includes naked bodies.
