An evening exploring the art of the Access All Areas Performance Company with performances and discussions with Liselle Terret from University of East London, Nick Llewellyn from Access All Areas, Daniel Oliver, Cian Binchy, Barefaced Collective (Gemma Smith and Zara Jayne Arnold), Not your Circus Dog (Elinor Keber and Emma Selwyn) and Everyday DayLee (Dayo Koleosho and Lee Philips).
LADA is working with Access All Areas Performance Company to address the lack of visibility for learning disabled and autistic artists within Live Art.
Access All Areas run the award-winning Performance Making diploma course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and have been piloting different ways for graduates from that programme to create their own work, either as collectives or as solo artists. They are currently supporting 12 artists as part of the Access All Areas Performance Company in a three year artist development programme. In 2017, they worked with artist Daniel Oliver on his LADA DIY project to begin to address the need for better inclusivity which initiated some fruitful collaborations. They have also learnt from other recent successes such as Access All Areas artist Emma Selwyn and Hester Chillingworth collaborating as part of a Steakhouse Live commission.
Access All Areas are aware however that they need a wider pool of creative collaborators who have an understanding of the social model of disability to help develop and promote the artists’ work, and are also keen to think through other strategies for better including learning disabled and autistic artists into programming and development opportunities. They are completely open to new ideas towards commissioning, platforms, networking, funding and programming.
To further this work this is one of two events at LADA:
