MA Live Art Launch

Food and drinks will be served

An exciting and unprecedented new MA Live Art will begin in September 2018*, convened by the Drama Department at Queen Mary University, London in collaboration with LADA.

MA Live Art is a specialised postgraduate course dedicated to the research, practice, and programming of Live Art and will be led by research leaders, industry professionals and leading artists. Graduates will gain theoretical and practical grounding in histories and practices of Live Art, while developing professional capacities and networks.

Please join us for an event to mark the launch of this MA. The evening will offer a flavour of the kinds of practices, ideas, approaches and issues the MA will engage with and is aimed at those who might consider applying to the course themselves as well as those who could encourage their students, colleagues and collaborators to do so.

The evening will feature a series of dialogues with:

  • Dominic Johnson (QMUL), Martin O’Brien (artist and QMUL) and Lois Keidan (LADA) on the teaching and study of Live Art;
  • Dickie Beau (artist and QMUL Artist Fellow) and Julia Bardsley (artist and QMUL lecturer) on practice as research and research as practice;
  • and the artists Anne Bean and Ansuman Biswas on making, collaborating and surviving.

MA Live Art is the first programme of its kind, and will support research and practice in performance art, time-based art, site-specific performance, relational and intimate performance, durational performance, and other experimental practices. Students will engage with and make performance in dialogue with genealogies of visual art and/or experimental theatre in the twentieth century.

Students will learn through studio-based and discussion-led methods, through workshops, lectures, master classes, seminars, fieldwork and professional placements. The course will be run at both LADA’s Study Room at The Garrett Centre in Bethnal Green and QMUL’s Mile End campus.

The programme of study can be taken either full time (1 year) or part time (2 years). Students will have access to QMUL’s full research and support services, as well as to LADA’s extensive expertise and resources.

More information can also be found on the QMUL website
