Title: Revue
Artist: Jade Montserrat (UK)
5:30pm Thu 25 Oct 2018 – 5.30pm Fri 26 Oct 2018 (24 Hours)
SPILL Festival
Revue is a choreographed, repeated routine performed naked, for 24 hours set to Cab Calloway’s popular cotton club track, ‘Pickin’ Up The Cabbage’.
Revue will be filtered digitally through institutions in cities throughout the world where Josephine Baker performed, and then back into the public domain. The performance is intent on reimagining the representation of black bodies, with an emphasis on protection, care, positioning and preservation.
The work, performed live in Ipswich, is also being streamed at these locations worldwide;
New York – La Mama
Brussels – Cifas
Chicago – The School of Art Institute Chicago
London – The Live Art Development Agency
About the Artist:
Jade Montserrat works at the intersection of art and activism through drawing, painting, performance, film, installation, sculpture, print and text. The artist interrogates these mediums with the aim to expose gaps in our visual and linguistic habits.
World Premiere
Revue is a SPILL Commission and supported by Arts Council England and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
